The second leg of my trip to Cornwell sent me into the heart of Fish and Chip Shop Detective territory.
Beginning with a night in Newlyn – I spent a few pleasant hours bear the harbour – the home of Mr Robbins and his campervan. The guest house I stayed in – aptly named Panorama – had amazing views.
I could see St Michaels’ Mount from my window – a place that crops up frequently in the Fish and Chip Shop tales – in particular, Book 3: The Fish and Chip Detectives and A Mystery at Sea. (out on Sept 3rd)
The following day I hobbled off to Penzance, and their fabulous literary festival.
I’ve had the pleasure of teaching writing workshops at Penzance Lit Fest on a number of occasions, and it is always a total joy.
This year I was sharing the cosy crime love with a workshop entitled, Death by Flowerpot. The aim of this two hour class, was to put together all of the information needed before you get writing a cosy crime novel, from location, character, murder weapon. motive to suspects, sleuth, victim and guilty party.
From the glorious Morrab Library, it was great fun to steer twelve future writers along the road to murder. The students were amazing and the laughter rang out as we enjoyed plotting and planning various dastardly deed.
Then – it was time to explore. Sadly, as my back was in a bad way, I didn’t get far – but obviously I had to pop to Mousehole tp see the home of Maggie and Ryan – and I also managed to nip to Sennen Cove – the backdrop to Book 4.

I’ll be back in Cornwall at the end of September, when I take part in the fabulous Festival of Words at Looe. Hopefully my back will behave then, so I can do a little more exploring!
